Prices vary widely. Automated online services cost £10 to £30 per track but apply generic processing with no human judgement. Freelance engineers typically charge £80 to £250 per song, and established mix engineers charge considerably more. At Choisez Studio, mixing and mastering is £300 per song as a fixed price, handled by a human engineer with major-label credits, and includes both the mix and the master rather than charging separately.

Mixing is the process of balancing the individual parts of your song against each other: levels, EQ, compression, tuning, reverb, delay and effects, so the vocal sits correctly against the instrumental and every element has its own space. Mastering is the final stage applied to the finished stereo mix, setting the overall tone, dynamics and loudness so the record translates consistently across streaming platforms, phones, cars and club systems. You need both, and both are included at Choisez Studio.

No. Mixing and mastering is handled entirely remotely. You upload your stems or send a WeTransfer or Drive link along with your notes and reference tracks, and receive your finished, release-ready files online. Artists across the UK and internationally use the service without ever visiting the studio.

Send your stems: each element of the song exported as a separate audio file, all starting from the same point in the timeline. That usually means the instrumental (or its individual parts), lead vocals, doubles, harmonies and ad-libs as separate files. WAV at the original session sample rate is ideal. If you only have a two-track instrumental and a vocal, that works too.

Export them dry wherever possible, without reverb, delay, tuning or heavy processing baked in, so the mix engineer has full control. If a specific effect is part of the creative idea and the song does not work without it, keep that one and mention it in your notes. Always remove any master bus limiter or compressor before exporting.

A lot can be improved. Tuning, timing, balance, tone, sibilance and background noise can all be treated, and a mix can transform a rough recording. What cannot be undone is severe clipping, heavy room reverb recorded into the take, or distortion baked into the file. If the recording is beyond repair, we will tell you honestly rather than take the booking.

The aim is a record that sounds full and competitive on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube and TikTok as well as on phone speakers and in the car.

Yes. Mixing and mastering does not affect ownership. The recording remains entirely yours and you are free to release it on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube or anywhere else with no conditions.

Yes. You receive the mix to review and can raise changes before the master is finalised, which is why reference tracks and clear notes at the start make a real difference to how quickly the record lands where you want it.

Yes. If you have a beat but have not recorded yet, the £450 package covers vocal recording at the studio in Canary Wharf plus the full mix and master. If you want the instrumental made from scratch as well, exclusive production including recording, mixing and mastering is £1,990.
